This fun winter printable focuses on building the early literacy skills of rhyming and phonemic awareness. Phonemes are the letter sounds (not the letters themselves) that make up words. They are the all important building blocks of language. Learning to recognize phonemes teaches kids that words are made up of smaller parts, which will help them achieve overall reading success.
To use the Winter Phonemic Awareness and Rhyming Game printable, cut out the picture and letter cards and follow the directions for the game you want to play. You can choose between matching initial, finial or medial phonemes (explained in the printable).
You can also build rhyming skills by having your child sort the picture cards into groups that rhyme (e.g. frog and hog).
