Breastfeeding is a great way to ensure your baby is getting the best nutrition possible. But, it isn’t always easy. From leaks to sore nipples, there always seems to be a new challenge. With this on-the-go breastfeeding essentials kit, you can breastfeed with confidence no matter where your adventures may lead!
Essential On-The-Go Breastfeeding Supplies
Within your first few weeks of breastfeeding, your boobs will leak a lot. After that, they’ll leak when you least expect it! I can’t even tell you how many times a leak has caught me off guard when I’ve been out and about. Just when I think I’m done with leaks, they’re back again! You can save yourself a lot of wet moments by carrying a spare set of nursing pads in your to-go kit at all times.
As a breastfeeding mom, you already know how important it is to continue taking your prenatal vitamins on a daily basis. But, now that you’re living the hectic mom life, it can be easy to forget. Carrying a few vitamins in your to-go breastfeeding supplies can save you on days when you have a forgetful moment. The travel sized pill containers are really cheap and you can easily get one for under $1.
When breastfeeding, it’s also important to make sure your vitamins are guaranteed to meet high quality standards. I personally use Nature Made® Prenatal Multi + DHA. I’ve been taking them daily since I started trying to conceive my first child, and am still taking them as I breastfeed number 2. I love Nature Made® Prenatal Multi + DHA+ because it provides 200 mg DHA which may help support fetal brain and eye development †. It’s also has no synthetic dyes, no yeast or starch, no artificial flavors, and is gluten free, with clinically proven absorption of Folic Acid and Iron. Sounds great right?!
The cheapest place I’ve found to purchase Nature Made® Prenatal Multi + DHA is Sams Club, so if you have a membership, definitely check your local club. At my club, it’s only $19.48 for 150 vitamins, which is a great deal! It’s also so super convenient to pick up the vitamins while I’m already at Sam’s Club doing my regular grocery shopping. Convenience is key, when you’re a mom!
Breastfeeding can sometimes make you ravenous, and there is nothing worse than having to resort to fast food, when you are trying to eat healthy. My essentials pouch has just enough room to include a small breakfast bar, so it really does fit everything I need! Remember to pick something nutritious and with at least 3 grams of fiber, so it will help you stay full. A packed snack will also come in handy if you do need to take one of the vitamins, because most prenatal vitamins, including Nature Made® Prenatal Multi + DHA need to be taken with food.
It’s always a great idea to breastfeed with clean hands to avoid transferring germs to your baby. Unfortunately, when you are out running errands, at the playground, or on a hike, you never know what kind of germs and sticky messes you might encounter. Since there’s not always a sink when you need it, it’s a great idea to pack a travel sized hand sanitizer.
While breastfeeding, you never know when you might be overcome with a little (or a lot!) of soreness. Sometimes you can feel fine in the morning, but by the afternoon your nipples will be sensitive to touch. Even the rubbing of your clothes can increase the pain. For this reason, I always keep nursing balm in my to-go kit. I’d rather have it on hand than have to cut an activity short, due to discomfort.
Tip: nursing balms, especially raw coconut oil, tend to melt in the heat. Be sure your balm container has a screw on lid to prevent any leaks during outdoor activities.
A Cute Zipper Pouch
Finally, now that you have all these great supplies, you need a travel sized pouch to store them. Try to find something big enough to fit all the necessities comfortably, but small enough to fit inside your purse or diaper bag. If the bag takes up too much space, you won’t want to bring it along, which will defeat the purpose.
You’ve got this mama! Armed with your new on-the-go breastfeeding kit, you will be ready to breastfeed anytime, anyplace! Happy exploring!
