Seventh Annual Pie Contest
The leaves are changing, the temperatures have finally cooled, and here at Slow Food Tennessee Valley our minds turn to one thing: Pie!!!
That’s right; it’s time for our 7th annual pie contest, which will take place on Sunday, Nov. 5th at 6 pm in the Visitor Center at Ijams Nature Center. Whether you bake amazing pies or just like to eat them, please join us for a pie-filled evening.
HOW IT WORKS: To enter the contest, simply bake a pie that contains at least one local ingredient. Making the crust yourself is not required, but will please our judges, as will using more than one local ingredient. Prizes will be awarded for best savory pie and best sweet pie, as chosen by our judges; all pies are also eligible for the audience favorite award. Votes for audience favorite are $1 each, and you can vote as many times as you like, so remember to bring plenty of dollar bills! To be eligible for prizes, pies MUST BE SUBMITTED by 6:30 p.m.
ENTRANCE FEE: a pie (one pie per individual/couple, please), or $7 per person
WHO IT BENEFITS: One of the many reasons we love our annual pie contest is that it gives us a chance to support others who are working to make good, sustainable, healthy food available to all. This year, the proceeds will benefit Abbey Fields Farm, a young urban farm in the shadow of the old Standard Knitting Mill just north of downtown Knoxville. In their words, they are “reclaiming blighted urban land to grow food for our neighbors”, including chefs, grocers and the general public through a CSA and on-site farmstand.
ETC. As always, we strive for zero waste events, so please bring your own place setting (plate, silverware, napkin, drinking glass). Questions? Message us on FB or email us at firstname.lastname@example.org
