Those who know me can attest that I am usually
fashionably late to the party. My fall festivities were no different when, a mere 7 days before Halloween, my family and I ventured to Maple Lane Farms for a leisurely hayride and pumpkin picking.
The hayride was a blast and circled the whole farm. We enjoyed the scenic mountain view as we took in the sights and fresh farm air.
The best part was an up close and personal encounter with a herd of cows that was being moved to a new pasture.
Since we came late to the game, the patch was a little picked-over. Though we had to walk a little further, in the end, we each had multiple perfect-pumpkins to choose from. Of course, the final choice is always a struggle.
The night before we picked pumpkins, my family decided to visit the haunted corn maze, while I stayed home with the little man. The maze is huge! To find all of the check points, it took them almost 2 hours. During the day, when there is a little more light, it might not take quite as long. The consensus was, for adults, it was fun and worth the money but only mildly scary. For kids, the scare factor is significantly higher. One mother said her daughter (about 7) didn’t even last 10 minutes.
The pumpkins and maze are the primary attractions at this farm, but they do also have a concession stand, gift shop, various farm equipment on display and a gorgeous sunflower field for photographing.
I hope you enjoyed your Halloween and wish you a wonderful fall season!
