This week for our Mom Explores book club, we read the exciting book Groundhog’s Day Off, by Robb Pearlman. In this book, Groundhog is feeling under-appreciated for his very important work of predicting the length of winter. He decides to go on strike and hightails it to a secluded spa. Eventually he realizes that people do care about him and that he has a very important job to do. So, he quickly returns to work just in time for Groundhog’s Day.
The illustrations in this book are very cute and bright. This book is also perfect for teaching kids the importance of considering the feelings of others and showing appreciation. Look for the book at your local library or get it by clicking the link below.
Groundhog’s Day Off
This printable activity comes in 2 formats Groundhog’s Day Off Sight Word Practice Game or Grounghog’s Day Off Letter Recognition Game. The object of both games is to help Groundhog find his way home from the spa by identifying the sight words or letters you find along the path. Roll the die to see how many spaces to move. Move your game piece and identify the sight word or letter you land on. Continue rolling the die until Groundhog makes it all the way home.
My fellow Mom Explorers have also created wonderful activities to accompany this book. View them at the links below.
