This cute castle printable helps young learners practice number recognition and number words.
This week for our Mom Explore’s Book Club we read Falling for Rapunzel, by Leah Wilcox. This delightful book is a humorous twist on the classic version. In this story, Rapunzel can’t quite hear what the prince is asking, which leads to her throwing a variety of silly items out of her tower window. She basically throws out everything BUT her hair! If your kids have a silly streak, they will truly enjoy this book.

This activity is truly sweet and simple. First, print the castle counting game from the link above. Once it is printed, you can play the game either of 2 ways. First, you can have your child read the number word and cross it out. Then, locate the corresponding numeral located in one of the castle windows.

To link the counting game back to the story, reread the book and have your child use tally marks to keep track of how many items Rapunzel throws out of her window. This is a great game for teaching tally marks: Teaching Tally Marks: An Outdoor Math Lesson With Sticks, by The Educator’s Spin On It. If you’re not feelin’ the tally marks, you can always have your child make dots on paper, or simply count out loud.
