In the world of girls, fairies are all the rage right now. Between miniature fairy gardens, flying fairy toys and fairy garden parties, you can’t throw a stone without hitting a fairy themed activity. I can’t even count the number of faries I saw on Halloween. This fairy wand craft brings winter themed imaginative play to life with inexpensive materials. Many of the materials you will already have at home. This wand will keep your little fairy (or wizard) busy for hours. As I also found out, the wand is pretty entertaining for cats as well (see below).
- sheet of dark blue construction paper
- white crayon
- paper towel roll
- 3 plastic snowflake ornaments (dollar tree, pack of 6)
Use the white crayon to decorate the construction paper with a winter theme. Let the kids be creative and draw any wintery thing they want.
Tape the 3 snowflakes in the center of the construction paper, at one end. Tape them at varying lengths, so that when the wand is held the snowflakes form a cascade.
Wrap the sheet of construction paper around the paper towel roll and tape in place.
Enjoy your finished product! (see below for crazy cat and literacy link)
As I was taking my photos, I also discovered that cats LOVE fairy wands. If you want to preserve your kid’s wand, be sure to keep it away from the cats!
